Paul Bergrin in Solitary Confinement

I have just been informed by someone close to Paul Bergrin that he is currently in solitary confinement at USP Tucson. The actual Bureau of Prisons (BOP) term is SHU. In Bergrin's situation, as is often the case with other inmates, he is in SHU for unknown reasons. He's done nothing incorrect, illegal or in violation of any BOP rule.

You can write to Paul at this address:

Paul Bergrin - #16235-050
USP Tucson
U.S. Penitentiary
P.O. Box 24550
Tucson, AZ 85734

Paul Bergrin expects to be in SHU for several months minimum, so they're certainly impeding his investigation and obstructing his legal filings. If the past is an indicator, this is all at the hands of the Newark US Attorney's Office. At this time their cases are colliding and there are many conflicts between testimony in the Paul Bergrin case, the William Baskerville case, and the Rakeem Baskerville and Hakeem Curry case. All of these cases have current motions and appeals in courts waiting to be heard.

This is not much different than the methods used to obstruct Rakeem Baskerville from responding to government motions or orders by the judge in his case currently and in past. This poor guy is unable to effectively send or receive mail - another story for a new blog post this week, so look for it.

I have been told that Paul is suffering, but staying strong and that solitary confinement is torturous for him. If you have done any reading on the effects of solitary on a human being, you will know that they're putting him through hell, literally. I'm sending a letter off today and if you have any concern or belief in Paul Bergrin, you will too.

I'm not sure what else to say at this moment. I knew they'd pull this crap. They must do anything to stop the truth from being revealed and prevent him from advancing his extremely valid legal arguments. I will post again on the situation as soon as I have additional information.

Would you kindly let us know what
solitary confinement is like at
USP Tucson and if prisoners are
allowed to buy commissary or go
out for X hours per week.
Thank you.

Sure, but the only way I will know for sure is from Paul. I haven't had reason to send snail mail to him since he has been at USP Tucson, so not sure how good (or bad) the mailroom is and could take time to send questions and receive answers. Check back in a couple of weeks.

Some BOP facilities have good mailrooms and then some inmates get their mail screwed with - I honestly do not know if Paul Bergrin has mail problems or not, but will know soon enough.

For one example, I have had to mail docs to Rakeem Baskerville at Victorville USP in California. At one point the non-receipt of mail was so bad that I started sending First Class + certified mail, so it had to be signed for. The cost to do this is higher than Priority, but no one has to sign for Priority and it would disappear. And then sometimes a person in the mailroom would sign for the certified mail and Rakeem still did not get it for 1-2 weeks. Signature was always a complete scribble, so I couldn't give him a name in email and they would deny they had the mail. Additionally, the Newark US Attorney's Office or clerk's office civil division (case is a 2255 filing) would not send him copies of docs they filed on his case or the judge's orders on the case AND/OR the mailroom stole them. End result? The guy has no clue what's going on with his own case and the judge would file an Order before he ever had a chance to respond. It's a game. Perhaps the mailroom does this at the direction of Newark US Attorney's Office, so both basically steal his mail - a federal crime!

Hopefully Paul actually receives mail. I will let you know.

To add... I will get more into the mail issue that R Baskerville has been having for a long time in a new post this weekend. There's much more than I just stated - believe it or not. The guy still does not have his trial transcripts, which he absolutely needed a long time ago, but especially 10 months ago when I started working on it. These government people and their cohorts are one big scam!
